Hone your power as a design changemaker

Anyone can use design to solve problems that matter, regardless of their background.

Dismantling systems of oppression, however, requires us to move beyond typical design approaches. We must not only be designers — we must become design changemakers. This means embodying changemaking as an ethos and as a practice.

We're here to equip you with what you need to harness the power of design for positive change.

About Us

Discover design changemaking

We can't make liberatory futures a reality with conventional design approaches steeped in oppressive norms. That's why we turn to design changemaking.

It centers around a dynamic ecosystem of design practices of positive change. These practices are interconnected and can be expanded upon, rearranged and redefined on an ongoing basis in our work.

We've packaged an overview of design changemaking and the first steps you can take in our introductory Design Changemaking Playbook.

Meet our founder

Hi, I'm Sandra Camacho (She/Her), a.k.a. Sandra By Design. Design Changemakers emerged out of my desire to mobilize designers into learning and action around liberation, equity and justice. I'm excited to be in community with you as convener of this shared space.

I started my career at Google and have spent nearly 15 years enabling people to innovate, use design-centric methods and create a positive impact. Today, I train and consult with clients around the world on diversity, equity and inclusion, equitable design and responsible innovation.
